While the Angels may play a little closer to Hollywood, we’ve been fortunate enough over the last three years to see how Hollywood—and super technology—has influenced two of the Yankees. Maybe more in A.J. Burnett’s case than C.C. Sabathia’s, as you’ll see. The big lefty has a home setup more suited for watching multiple sporting events, while Burnett, to take from the classic Airplane, seems to enjoy gladiator movies. Lets see the rooms these guy get to relax in.
Burnett Theater Front View
The 104-inch Stewart Filmscreen superwide display in A.J.‘s theater room shows movies shot in the CinemaScope (2.35:1 aspect ratio) without the pesky black bars on top and bottom, while a Crestron 8.4-inch WiFi Touchpanel (on counter) operates the audio and video systems. The team at Gramophone in Timonium, Md., put together this project.
Burnett Theater Rear View
This theater had to accommodate A.J. Burnett who is 6-foot-4, so the ceiling-mounted Runco VX-2000D 1080p projector was hung over the bar. Big theater sound comes from a combination of B&W speakers, Velodyne subwoofers and McIntosh electronics.
Burnett Theater Lobby
A lobby and concession stand leads one into Burnett’s theater. Though it seems a natural extension of the theater, the lobby was actually an afterthought. After doing the theater, the installers thought it would be a crime not to add a lobby.
Sabathia Media Room
San Mateo, Calif.-based Sights & Sounds outfitted C.C. Sabathia’s Northern California abode. Inside C.C.’s cabana is a sports lover’s dream, in the form of a five-display video wall with a sports ticker above and a 2,500-watt Linn surround system. One 61-inch NEC LCD display is flanked by four 45-inch Sharp LCDs, and each screen is served by its own DirecTV HD satellite receiver.
Sabathia Cabana
A 45-inch Sharp Aquos LCD HDTV helps illuminate C.C.’s patio area off a backyard cabana. His backyard is an outdoor entertainment utopia, complete with outdoor sound, video, a pool, grotto, grill and dining areas.
Sabathia Grotto
The grotto area grotto spa features a SunBriteTV outdoor-rated LCD TV tucked into a waterfall hideout.
